Hazardous components
Products containing potentially hazardous ingredients like essential oils or fragrance oils above certain concentrations require classification and labeling as hazardous under regulations like the EU's CLP Regulation. Proper hazard classification and authoring of hazard labels is crucial
Unscented products
Unscented candles and wax melts made with non-hazardous bases are generally exempt from detailed CLP labeling requirements, as they do not contain potentially hazardous components. However, basic product labels are still needed.
Imitation Food Products
Candles and wax melts designed to imitate food require specific classification and labeling based on regulations prohibiting products that could be confused with edible items, as this poses a safety risk. Proper classification and label authoring is mandatory.
Fragrance Blends
For candles and home fragrances containing complex fragrance blends, each blend must be classified separately. The fragrance supplier should provide a Safety Data Sheet (SDS) with a Unique Formula Identifier (UFI) number to aid in proper classification and label authoring.
Insect Repellent Candles
Candles marketed as insect repellents are classified differently and require separate registration with authorities like the Health & Safety Executive (HSE) in the UK. Specialized classification and label authoring is needed for these products.
